The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, under the astute leadership of Governor Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte, began its road concreting in the boundary roads of barangay Paloyon and barangay Lourdes Young in Nabua, Camarines Sur.
Local residents of Paloyon and Lourdes Young share the same sentiments of their potholed, muddy, and almost impassable roads. For many years, locals struggle to go in and out of their own barangay. Their only means of transport is through motorcycle, walking, and, when the road is not swamped with rainwater, renting tricycle.
“It has been our dream for a very long time to have a proper and passable road. From the time of my father to my generation and the generations that followed, we all wished for it,” recalled Lola Pancy Bolivar, a 72-year-old local senior of barangay Lourdes Young. “At the age of 72, I never thought I will be able to witness our dream coming true and I am so happy because I get to experience a better, easier, and safer transport every time I have to go to the market,” continued Lola Pancy.
As a senior citizen and a sari-sari store owner, Lola Pancy remembered the times that she struggled going to the market to restock her store. According to her, many of the tricycle drivers were fast at refusing her a ride once they find out that she’s from Lourdes Young. The rough roads are not only difficult to pass through, but it also damages the vehicles. Lola Pancy would sometimes resort to paying more than the minimum fare just to get home.
Having accessible roads is necessary in every community for their day-to-day living, such as going to the market, attending schools, going to their jobs, and most especially during emergencies. New and concrete roads help mitigate vehicular accidents and gives better access to people’s basic needs.
When asked how she felt of the new concrete road in their barangay, Lola Pancy happily exclaimed, “I love it! I love it, I love it because it has given us hope and better chance at supporting our family and our local businesses. Thank you very much for making our dreams come true!”
With the concrete roads in Paloyon and Lourdes Young, the barangay has become accessible, not only to tricycles and motorcycles, but also to four-wheeled vehicles and even big trucks.
Road construction and concreting is only among the many priority projects in infrastructure of Governor Migz throughout his three terms. From construction of classrooms, multipurpose buildings, covered courts, bridges, farm-to-market roads, and many more, the Provincial Government under his leadership has provided consistent projects and programs that bring about hope and confidence in every community in the province.
