Young local triathlete finishes 3rd in Ironman

PILI, Camarines Sur – Gov. LRay Villafuerte was jubilant with the win of the youngest triathlete, Chris Dimaano, who graduated from the CamSur Sports Academy, batch 2009, as he landed in the 3rd place for the 18-24 age category in the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines held at the CamSur Watersports Complex here, Sunday, Aug.23.
18-year-old Chris Dimaano battled with the toughest and the fiercest contenders in his category for the entirety of the competition with Gov. LRay, founder of the CSSA, firing the starting shot as more than 500 athletes embarked on the 113.3-km distance of the Ironman.
Oblivious to the credentials and expensive gears of his rivals, Dimaano endured the gruelling 2-kilometer swim with only the goal of winning in his arsenal. He paddled his way through the sea of participants and was able to finish ahead of his contemporaries in his division.
With the scorching heat of the sun, the young athlete negotiated the entire bike course which tested not only his strength but his determination as he pedalled the gruelling 90 kilometres to and from Nato, Sangay, Camarines Sur.
The last leg of the race which is the run course proved to be the most trying for the 18-year-old with the sun at its highest and the energy, near spent. However, with the will of a champion, Dimaano pushed himself to the limits and grabbed the third place in his division.
Dimaano will be receiving a cash bonus from Gov.LRay as a token of appreciation for showing exemplary performance and winning on top of his class. Gov. Lray will also be giving the young champion training programs to prepare him for other international events to come. andujar-MMEC
