Tour of CamSur 2011 seen as biggest race in Philippines cycling history
PILI, CamSur – The Tour of CamSur 2011 slated to be one of the major activities of the Kaogma Festival that will mark the foundation anniversary of the province this coming May is expected to the biggest international cycling event ever to be held in the country.
This was announced by major sponsor Governor LRay Villafuerte who disclosed the Tour of CamSur which was staged inside the province for the past 13 successive years will now be run from Manila to CamSur, winding at the CamSur Water Sports Complex, with a nine-lap 1,000 kilometer point to point distance traversing various tourism attractions of Southern Luzon and stake the biggest prize purse ever.
This will also be the first time the race will be open to international professional cycling teams.
Aside from the professional category, the Tour of CamSur 2011 will also feature trade and continental teams as well as a special division for age group amateur teams that will cover selected routes covering 500 kilometers in five stages that includes a ride around the world-famed Mayon Volcano.
In the professional category only 15 teams will be allowed to participate in the main event selected through a series of qualifying races scheduled as follows: March 13 at the Golden Haven in Las Piñas; March 20 at the FCAAF Civic Volvo along Roxas Boulevard; March 26 at Subic Bay Freeport in Olongapo; April 1-3 at TLBF in Ormoc, Leyte; April 17 at Sta. Elena, Sta. Rosa, Laguna; April 24 at Daang Hari TTT in Cavite; May 8 at Armour Criterium, Bonifacio Global City; and finally from May 21 to 29 the race from Manila to CamSur.
Six members may compose each team in the Professional/Trade division and nine members in each team that will compete in the ITT, TTT, Criteriums and Circuit races. For more information log on to www.philippinecyclingnews.com

Bicolanos who rose in the cycling ranks largely due to participation in previous Tours of CamSur who made it to the Top 25 qualifiers of the first qualifying race in Las Piñas include Bryan Sepnio, Eboy Quiñones, Michael Pili, Alvin Benosa, and cycling brothers John and Alan Ricafort.
