Measles immunization launched in Pili, CamSur
Pili, CamSur. The Department of Health (DOH) in coordination with the Provincial Government and the local government of Pili successfully launched the month-long Door to Door Measles/ Rubella Immunization Campaign dubbed “Iligtas Sa Tigdas Ang Pinas” in barangay Palestina, Pili last April 4.
The project is actually a nationwide campaign which aims to eradicate the measles problem as a public threat by 2012.
ASEC. Maria Bernadita T. Flores of the Department of Health who was the guest of honor said the program hopes to immunize about 95 % upward of target children nationwide whose ages ranges from 9 months to below 8 years old.
Trained inoculators in tandem will perform the immunization house to house in barangays from April 4 to May 4, 2011 on an average of 35 children per day.
Governor LRay Villafuerte whose administration’s main thrusts include the welfare of young children has given his stamp of approval on the month-long immunization campaign.
Vice Governor Fortunato Pena, who was designated by Governor Villafuerte to head the health programs of the province was present to extend his full support to the campaign.
Pili Mayor Tomas Bongalanta expressed his deep gratitude for launching the program in his town although, he said the town did not have many measles cases.
The mayor took the opportunity to disclose his health program intended for the children in public schools such as the supplemental feeding, free haircut and free toothbrush and toothpaste which will be launched on June this year.
After the brief program held in front of the barangay hall, ASEC Flores along with DOH and Provincial Health Office staff and rural health unit workers proceeded to the neighborhood to conduct the ceremonial inoculation of identified children.
Among the guests also present during the momentous occasion included Regional Director Nestor Santiago of DOH 5, Dr. Rafael Salles of the muinicipality of Pili, Dr. Bernadette Carlos of RHU Pili , barangay officials and media representatives. (stnieves/mmec)
