Guam-based expert on hearing-impaired education visits CamSur
PILI, CamSur. Dr. Richard Fee, associate professor of the University of Guam, along with wife Julie visited the province of Camarines Sur to explore the possibility of conducting a special training course in partnership with the province of CamSur for teachers involved in the education of hearing-impaired school children.
The Fees who arrived Tuesday, January 11, were special guests of Governor LRay Villafuerte and Pura Luisa V. Magtuto, consultant of the Camarines Sur Headstart Pre-School Montessori being managed by the provincial government.
Dr. Fee’s advocacies include training of teachers in developing nations who are engaged in the education of hearing-impaired children to be effective in dealing with their clientele.
In a luncheon meeting with top officials of DeEd CamSur, Naga City, and Iriga City hosted by Mrs. Magtuto, Dr. Fee offered his expertise to SPED teachers to further strengthen their capabilities in meeting the challenges posed by the increasing number of children with hearing defects.
He recommended early interventions like medical consultation so that the hearing defects of these children could be detected as early as possible and the corresponding corrective measures undertaken.
Dr. Fee has spent 39 years of his career as teacher, administrator and college professor in deaf and special education in Hongkong, Guam, Australia and US mainland.
While here, Dr. Fee also visited several schools with special education program for school children including St. Joseph School, Naga Parochial School, Naga Central School SPED Center and the Gualandi Formation Center for the Deaf. STN/MMEC
