Gov. LRay Villafuerte chosen Orgullo kan Bicol Awardee
Governor LRay Villafuerte was among those given recognition during the 2nd Orgullo kan Bicol Awards held last Thursday evening, January 27, 2011 at the Marriot Hotel in Manila. The occasion was sponsored by Faithful Heroes Shining Times, Inc. in cooperation with the Diocese of Masbate.
Orgullo kan Bicol Award which has evolved as an annual event is aimed at giving recognition to worthy and deserving Bicolanos who have brought honor and prestige to the Bicol Region.
The nomination came out barely two weeks after Governor Villafuerte received the prestigious MVP BOSSING Awards for Sports in October 28, 2010 in recognition of his contributions towards putting the Philippines on the map for wakeboarding which has resulted to an unprecedented rise in tourism in the province and in the country – the only local government official accorded this entrepreneurship award.
Thus, the award will be added to the long list of awards, citations and recognitions accorded the governor for his innovative development ventures founded on an entrepreneurship-oriented style of local governance which includes The Most Inspiring Filipinos and Tourism Entrepreneur of Philippine award in 2007, Outstanding Young Person of World in 2008 and One of the Most Powerful and Influential Filipinos and the CEO Excel Award for Local Governance in 2009.
Joining Gov. Villafuerte are fellow Camarinenses, painter-artist Pancho Piano for Visual Arts, Lynne Abanilla for Media and Honorable Noel Tijam in Judiciary. Honorable Leila De Lima of the Department of Justice, who was not able to show up, was among the awardees for Government Service.
Meanwhile, fourteen other Bicolanos from different provinces were also recipients of awards in various fields including Ms. Universe 4th runner up Venus Raj for Young and International understanding and Archbishop Leonardo Legaspi for Religious Leadership and Pastoral Work.
