Gov. LRay, provincial and municipal officials sworn into office
PILI, CamSur – Under his term, Camarines Sur has risen and became competitive with the other provinces of the country. We have proven it from 2004 to the present and we can surpass in the next three years what we have achieved in the past six years.
Thus, in a nutshell, Governor LRay Villafuerte vowed to over two thousand CamSur constituents composed of newly elected and reelected provincial and municipal officials, community leaders and supporters after taking his oath of office before RTC Branch 25 Presiding Judge Jaime F. Contreras for the third successive term as provincial executive Wednesday morning, June 30, at the Convention Center of the Provincial Capitol Complex in barangay Cadlan here.
Governor Villafuerte holds the distinction of being only the second governor of the province to be elected for the maximum three successive terms, a record previously solely achieved by his father now congressman of the new third district of Camarines Sur Luis R. Villafuerte, whom he succeeded.
Sworn in during the same ceremony were Cong. Salvio B. Fortuno of the fifth district and his successor Vice Governor Fortunato C. Peña administered by RTC Judges Antonio Camillus Ayo and Freddie Balonzo, respectively.
Selected provincial and municipal officials in turn took their oaths of office before Governor Villafuerte.
After taking his oath Governor Villafuerte humbly highlighted the changes by which the progress attained under his innovative leadership of the past six years such as Camarines Sur’s being catapulted to the top tourism destination in the country, rising from rank 39 to the top ten richest provinces of the Philippines, becoming an international sports center and climbing to seventh place among the country’s biggest rice producers.
The governor expressed optimism for CamSur to prosper more in the next three years not only as a center of tourism but also in the areas of education, sports and agriculture, among others.
Vice Governor Ato Peña aptly described the occasion as “a day of commitment and thanksgiving,” profusely extending his gratitude to Governor LRay, Congressman Villafuerte and the entire Villafuerte clan for their help in boosting him to his recent success.
Vowing Christian and innovative leadership in the provincial legislature as advocated by Governor Villafuerte, Peña promises “I do not want to be known as a good politician but as a good leader,” after the gavel symbolizing the presiding officership of the sanggunian was turned over to him.
Members of the provincial board who took their turns taking their oaths of office were Warren A. Señar of the first district, Romulo O. Hernandez and Darius S. Nopra of the second district, Angel G. Naval of the third district, Emmanuel F. Llaguno and Rosito T. Velarde of the fourth district, and Rudito P. Espiritu Jr. and Wilfredo Rex C. Oliva of the fifth district.
Swearing in of various town mayors followed including Lilia Abarrientos of Del Gallego, Nebb P. Santiago of Cabusao, Salvador Señar of Magarao, Fidel Carido of Ocampo, Tomas Bongalonta of Pili, Sandy Ondis of Siruma, Solon Demetriou, Jr. of Garchitorena, Antero Lim of Goa, Jeanette Bernaldez of Bato, Rey Lacoste of Buhi, Benjamin Decena of Bula and Delia Simbulan of Nabua.
Oath-taking by vice mayors and councilors followed after which Cong. Fortuno capped the ceremony with a brief message underscoring he will do his usual utmost best to be of the most effective service to his constituency. (GBClaveria/MMEC)
