Ecotourism, eco- productivity concerns up at “Eco-Mismo” confab in CamSur
Former president Ramos is keynote speaker
PILI, CamSur – Former president Fidel V. Ramos is slated to arrive in Camarines Sur on February 26 to eyeball tourism development in the province and personally oversee the conduct of “Eco-Mismo: The Philippine Conference on Ecotourism and Eco-Productivity” at the Camarines Sur Convention Center here on February 27.
Governor Villafuerte will be among the major resource speakers lined-up, assigned to discourse on “Ecotourism in the Province of Camarines Sur,” expectedly integrated into the conference’s agenda considering the quantum leap the province has made in the areas of tourism and environment protection in the last few years.
Camarines Sur was recipient of last year’s Presidential Citation for Best Practice in Tourism Development and was awarded the “Top Destination of the Year” by the prestigious magazine, People Asia. Last year, the province’s foreign visitors increased by 29% while domestic arrivals increased by 163%.
Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano is also expected to grace the occasion.
The multi-sectoral conference expected to be attended by the key tourism players and stakeholders in the region is spearheaded by the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation, Inc. (RPDEV) chaired by Ramos, in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Department of Environment and Natural Resource and the Province of Camarines Sur with Governor LRay Villafuerte as co-chairman of Eco-Mismo CamSur.
The former president is expected to arrive early Friday, February 26, take breakfast with Governor Villafuerte and other provincial leaders and survey the world renowned Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC), then hie off for a quick tour of other tourism development initiatives in the province particularly the foreign tourist magnet Gota Resort Village in Caramoan.
On February 27, President Ramos himself will be keynote speaker of the half-day Eco-Mismo forum at the Convention Center that will focus on promoting awareness, sharing best practices and policy and development aspects of ecotourism and eco-productivity as well as other RPDEV’s advocacies which include the global warming threat and prevailing economic crises.
Other topics and resource speakers include a primer “Introduction to Eco-Productivity” to be presented by APO/DAP(TBA), “Presentation of Best Practices for Eco-Productivity by Cleanway Technology Corp. chairman Herminio Esguerra, “Developing Ecotourism Sites” Tourism and Hospitality Consultants’ Asia Pacific Projects president and Eco-Mismo chairperson Narzalina Z. Lim, “Ecotourism and Eco-Productivity: The El Niño Experience” by Ten Knots Development Corp. CEO Leigh T. Perez, and “The Challenges of Climate Change and Tourism” by WWF Philippines board of trainees vice-chairman Lorenzo Tan. GBClaveria/MMEC)
