CamSur posts highest growth rate in tourist arrivals in PHL
PILI, CamSur – The province of Camarines Sur attained the highest growth rate in tourist arrivals last year, upstaging touted established tourist destinations of the country.
Based on a report of the Department of Tourism, CamSur’s incremental growth in tourist arrivals from January to September, 2010 compared to the same period of year 2009 was a remarkable 52.90%.
Tourist arrivals include both foreign and domestic tourists. CamSur’s foreign tourists last year tallied a total of 310,063 compared to year 2009 of 206,937 for growth rate of 49.83%. Domestic tourists in the province also increased immensely - 1,569,109 in year 2010 while 1,229,029 in 2009 for an incremental growth of 53.52%.
Metro Manila ranked second with a growth rate of only 20.93% last year. Boracay was in third position with a growth rate of 19.85%, while Cebu occupied the sixth ranking with a meager 6.42% growth rate.
The world class Camarines Sur Watersports Complex or CWC and the Gota Village Resort in Caramoan remain to be the top draw in unrelenting tourism thrust of Governor LRay Villafuerte.
CWC where the best cable park of world is located has lured top wakeboarders from over the world during international competitions sponsored by the provincial government.
Just last week, the province hosted the 5th and final stop leg of the World Wake Association (WWA) 2010 World Series dubbed the Ultimate Wake Championship which was participated in by over 100 wake riders representing 30 countries.
Contributing too, to the growth of tourism in the province were foreign tourists including “balikbayans” who were attracted by the ambience and amenities offered by CWC and the Gota Village Resort. Stn/MMEC
