CamSur is site for Eco-Merge’s 11 megawatt solar power facility
Eco-Merge Philippines, a Filipino-Japanese venture, is seriously eyeing CamSur among the four potential areas for the construction of solar energy facilities capable of generating combined power output of 41 megawatt with CamSur facility contributing 11 megawatts.
Other areas being considered potentials include Negros Occidental, Agusan del Norte and Zamboanga. Initial assessment of the whole project is valued at 164 million dollars or 7.38 billion pesos.
The construction of the facilities is but the initial salvo towards other forms of renewal energy as the company diversifies its energy portfolio in the future.
Eco-Merge President Edgar Morada disclosed that CamSur is being considered top location for the project because of the fact that the “governor of Camsur is one of the best governors in terms of undertaking renewable energy projects and is also eyeing Camsur as the first ever green province in the country.” Green province is an initiative of CamSur in planting no less than ten million trees within the period of two years.
Morada added the proposed 11 megawatt solar power project in CamSur will involve the provincial government, with the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC) buying the electricity to be produced from the facility.
Eco-Merge is slated to hold its groundbreaking for the CamSur solar power project on November 11, 2011 while the facility is expected to start commercial operations the following year as it would only take six months to complete the solar project, Morada explained.
