CamSur International Dragon Boat Fest 2010
CamSur Dragon Boat team set
on racing well in home turf
PILI, CamSur – After a successful excursion in the second and third legs of the PDBF national championships in Manila Bay last month, the CamSur Dragon Boat Team organized and fielded by Governor LRay Villafuerte is determined to prove its mettle playing as they will be in their home turf come the CamSur International Dragon Boat Fest at the Lago del Rey of the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex here on October 15 to 17.
The CamSur Dragon Boat team, a virtual neophyte in this sport but have started to lord it over other elite national teams and performed commendably in regattas abroad, will cross paddles with fifty three other teams thus far formally registered in two straight courses – 250 meters and 400 meters – in the Men, Women and Mixed categories for a total prize purse of US$18,750 equivalent to about P1 Million.
Already registered are teams comprising the elite paddling clubs of the country including the Fleet Marine Team, Manila Dragons, Manila Blazing Paddles, Manila Ocean Park, Airforce-Triton Dragon Boat, Maharlika Drakon, Philippine Blue Phoenix, Onslaught Racing Dragon, Manila Wave Paddlers Club, Accenture Dragon Boat Club, DLSU Dragon Boat Team, Cebu Dragon, Pyros Team, Philippine National Women’s Team, Rowers Club Philippines Sea Dragon, PDRT Fireblades, Rogue Pilipinas Dragon Boat Team, Philippine Army Dragon Boat Team, Aqua Fortis, PNP Patriot, CWC Team, QC Legionaires and the homegrown team.
Other local and foreign teams have been invited and have provisionally registered on-line and will complete their registration on-site on October 15.
October 15 will be devoted for on-site registration and team managers orientation, elimination races will be run for all categories on October 16, and October 17 will be for finals races, awarding and send off party.
The regatta will be conducted under Philippine Dragon Boat (PDBF) and International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) competition regulations.
The CamSur International Dragon Boat Fest 2010 is part of a comprehensive sports-tourism promotion program of the provincial government that includes, among others, wakeboarding and other cable and water-based sports, triathlon and marathon, that has boosted CamSur to a prominent spot in the extreme sports map of the world.
