Army, National Women teams rule 400, 200 meter races
1st CamSur International Dragon Boat Fest 2010
PILI, CamSur―Military regimen and sheer nose-to-the-grindstone practice and experience clearly paid off for the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Women’s Team to dominate the 400 and 250 meter races of the 1st CamSur International Dragon Boat Fest 2010 held at the Lago del Rey of the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex at the Provincial Capitol Complex here.
With a thousand-strong pool of machos to choose from and the unflinching discipline inherent with military training, the Army robust team that easily lorded it over thirty other teams to capture best-time finishes in the final races of the 400 meters at 1 minute and 37.38 seconds and the 250 meters at one minute and 2.56 seconds.
In the women’s division the veteran Philippine National Women’s simply outclassed eight other protagonists in the women’s category and twenty-one others in the mixed team division, with the CamSur team a very creditable second in both categories.
The winning teams in the women, men open and mixed 400-meter races took home a purse of US$2,000 each, US$1,000 each to the second placers and US$500 each to the third placers, while winners in the 250-meter races received US$1,500, US$750 and US$500, respectively, for a total tournament purse of $18,750.
The Women’s National team clocked first finishes at cumulative 1:49.16 in the 400 meters and 1:08.22 in the 250 meters in the women’s category; and 1:44.44 in the 400 meters and 1.05.69 in 250 meters of the mixed races.
Hard at the heels of the Army team capping a virtual series of exciting neck-to-neck finishes were fellow servicemen of the Philippine Navy’s Fleet Marine and the stalwart hometown CamSur team who finished second and third respectively in both 400 and 250 meters.
In the 400meters Fleet Marine clocked in at 1:38.56, a second and a fraction behind the Army and CamSur came in at 1.39.03 a hairline just over half a second behind Fleet Marines; while in the 250 meters the Fleet Marine finished at 1:03.30 while CamSur crossed the finish line at 1:03.90.
In mixed 400-meter finals race, CamSur with 1:44.63 was a very close second only 0.19 second behind the Philippine National Women’ team, similarly in the 250 meters with 1:06.41 or less than three-fourths of a second behind.
