61 teams all set to compete in Int’l CamSur Dragon Boat Fest 2010
PILI, CamSur – All systems are set and wired just waiting for the green light as at least 61 dragon boat teams battle it out in three categories of two distances of the CamSur Dragon Boat Fest 2010 at the Lago del Rey of the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex here on October 16 and 17, 2010.
The Dragon Boat Fest is another event of an array of sports spectacle lined-up under a comprehensive sports promotions program initiated by Governor LRay Villafuerte to transform CamSur into an extreme sports capital of the country and the world and to boost the province’s burgeoning tourism industry.
At the forefront of the competing teams stands the homegrown CamSur Dragon Boat Team, organized and supported by Governor Villafuerte himself during his early years as provincial executive, amassing an impressive collection of national and international titles and trophies in the few years hence, and now conceded among the leading, if not the best, dragon boat crews in the country today.
More than just the stimulus and motivation of playing in their own territory, the local team will enter the fray in top form in the wake of a very recent victorious excursion in dragon boat racing skirmishes after nearly sweeping all the events in the second and third legs of the PDBF national championships in Manila Bay last week of September where they cornered the gold in all events – men, mixed and women categories in both 200 and 400 meters - except for an unfortunate spill in the men 400 m. that landed the team in second place.
Other local teams who have signed up for the regatta are two teams from Canaman, a team from Buhi, another from San Jose, the Bicol River Hot Paddlers and a motley crew representing the CWC. Other teams from coastal, lakeside and riverine towns like Cabusao, Bato and Milaor are likewise keen on joining and may enroll on or before on-site registration on October 15.
Teams from elite paddling clubs who have confirmed to join include the Fleet Marine Team, Manila Dragons, Manila Blazing Paddles, Manila Ocean Park, Airforce-Triton Dragon Boat, Maharlika Drakon, Philippine Blue Phoenix, Onslaught Racing Dragon, Manila Wave Paddlers Club, Accenture Dragon Boat Club, DLSU Dragon Boat Team, Cebu Dragon, Pyros Team, Philippine National Women’s Team, Rowers Club Philippines Sea Dragon, PDRT Fireblades, Rogue Pilipinas Dragon Boat Team, Aqua Fortis, PNP Patriot, CWC Team, QC Legionnires, One Piece Drakon Sangress.
The competitions will be run in 250 meters and 400 meters straight course under PDBF and IDBF competition regulations. (GBClaveria/MMEC)
